When I play specifically with a bass and no drums I lose track of where I am and don’t know when I change chords. How can I fix this? What should I be paying attention to?

My friends and I have formed a small jazz ensemble and we are wondering what music to play. We have a bass, piano, drums, alto sax, trumpet and maybe a trombone if the music calls for one. Also how and where can a couple of high school students get music without spending too much? Thanks.

I’m trying to play a Christmas piece and the general mood/style is a relaxed jazz tempo. The piece is called "Baby Its Cold Outside", which I’m sure everybody is familiar with. The time signature is 4/4 and there are a lot of 8th note triplets. The problem is that the tempo seems more free flowing than just a basic 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and count. It doesn’t match how the song is supposed to be sung. It seems much more jumpy if you know what I mean. If anybody who is trained in jazz music could help or if anybody knows how to play something like that could help that would be awesome.

I’ve acquired a liking for music that use piano’s in the song’s but I have had a hard time pinpointing artists or songs when searching for similar stuff that I know. Anyone know a good way to search online or have suggestions? I’m not into Bach or Mozart, jazz or blues. I like piano in rock songs or modern type classical and in some punk or Emo stuff. I enjoy songs similar to the song in Twilight, Bella’s Lullaby.
Thanks in advance!
Also the song by Mae, called (Sun). The piano jam I like starts at around the 4:08 mark in the 5 minute song.

Can we understand this through theory. I was struggling with this last night. You are playing in two different ranges (let’s keep it simple and restrict it to a 4 octave keyboard). So, how do you know when 2 or more notes in those ranges will sound harmonious played together, so when you are improvising, you can just jam? By the way, this isn’t just a question about Jazz. It is relevant to Piano theory, regardless of what you do with it, including Classical. Your thoughts?
So lets assume the key of C. If you play 2 or more notes that fall within chords in this key your are golden right?
Well, the harmonious notes seem to fall into chords that are seperated into 2 or more different octaves. Like Trans-octave chords. Good term?

Hi folks,
I’ve been playing classical piano for some years now. I recon I ‘ve reached and intermediate level. All though I like listening to classical music, I am rather bored with playing classical piano.
I would like to sing pop/rock/broadway/jazz songs and use the piano to accompany myself based on the chords on the music sheet.
Guitar players seem to learn rhytms that goes well will chords and in a matter of months they can sing and accompany multiple songs.
Does anyone know any GOOD (not those "learn to play piano in 2 hours" junk) piano methods that teaches rhythms that goes well with chords and popular riffs etc.?
P.S. I could not find a tutor/teacher that teach these. There are only classical piano teachers around me.
