I have created a transcription to add to the earlier video I posted on Youtube. I am gradually upgrading some of my earlier videos to add a transcription, additional annotations and a clear keyboard view. There is a printable pdf file of the transcription, and a bass and drums backing track to play along with on my DVD – details on my website at www.bushgrafts.com
Who Can I Turn To. Another song that was a favourite of Bill Evans. I have added comments again, and provided a clear piano view and also notation. It would be best to download a higher quality video if you want to look more closely at this, and be able to stop/start/loop at will – I have posted an easier to see video (as wmv file) and the midi file that was recorded at the same time, and a pdf file of the transcription at web.newsguy.com Ifyou have a fast connection and want to see this in high quality video to see the notes clearly (and improved audio), add the letters &fmt=18 straight after the existing internet address line above.
I have re-cast this same video with notation in HIGH DEFINITION mode at www.youtube.com This is much improved in quality. This is 3 play-throughs of this Gershwin song improvised from the basic leadsheet- played very straight, with a variety of harmonies, and styles. Unfortunately some of the comments are unreadable so for anyone interested, this video, with clearer text, and the midi file recorded as this was video-ed are at my homepage at web.newsguy.com Play the midi file in a suitable program (the free Vanbasco’s Karaoke player for example) to slow things down or see more clearly the notes being played on a keyboard.
Someone asked me to do this. Starts with a solo piano, then I played the piano over a prepared sequence of Guitar, bass and drums. I listened to a version by Andre Previn and was influenced by his version. For other piano players who may be interested, I’ve added lots of text comments explaining some of the techniques used. On my website www.bushgrafts.com you will find an enhanced version of this video and the printable transcription is on my DVD – http – (over 120 printable transcriptions of these videos and more than 9 hours of high quality video for !)
This is a much improved re-working of an earlier video – in HD and widescreen. I have added additional annotations, scrolling notation, and clear keyboard view. As always, the video is free to download from my website – www.bushgrafts.com and on my DVD are a printable copy of the noataion. and also the bass and drums backing track to play along with. (details on my website)

Ifyou have a fast connection and want to see this in high quality video to see the notes clearly (and improved audio), add the letters &fmt=18 straight after the existing internet address line above. I Can’t Get Started – another of the most played solo jazz piano songs. This was a midi file I did some time ago. I had added a lot of text annotations to it so I thought that this would be a good way to update , so I have converted it with piano and notation views. The text comments are a bit small and difficult to read – get a much clearer copy at web.newsguy.com.au along with the original midi file, and a computer generated transcription (containing all the annotations, and the chord symbols)
Nardis – jazz piano lesson. This tune (attributed to Miles Davis – though he apparently never recorded it) has been played by quite a few jazz pianists – notably Bill Evans. There are several excellent versions on youtube – try the version by 7notemode – www.youtube.com This I did some time ago as a midi file – and using computer software was able to transform it into a video lesson with piano and notation views, as well as some annotations. The printable transcription is on my DVD – www.bushgrafts.com – (over 120 printable transcriptions of these videos and more than 9 hours of high quality video for !)
A video version of another midi file I recorded quite a few years ago. In many ways, this is the simplest jazz song to play – 2 bars that repeat all the way through in 2 keys. The progression though can be played with a blues approach very effectively – blues scale(s) fit over the whole form. Also, despite the basic harmony using 4 chords only, with substitutions, passing chords etc. the harmony can be made interesting . As with others, the video can be downloaded free from my website at www.bushgrafts.com and the printable transcription is on my DVD (details on my website)
Again this is a video rendering of a midi file that I did some time ago – I have added a lot of annotations keyboard view, and scrolling notation as well as the leadsheet with chords and original melody. On my website, www.bushgrafts.com along with over 200 tutorial videos to download, you will also find over 300 live played jazz piano midi files http All can be downloaded for free!
